I cook the cabbage at the stop. Cutting information technology in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I use 1/2 cooking liquid from the meat and 1/2 chicken goop with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until but crisp tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely flavor, it stays green and doesn't get all mushy.

This recipe is very good as written and is very like shooting fish in a barrel to make. I always like to read the reviews and brand the recipe the original fashion and then again and tweek to reviews as needed, I similar helpful constructive reviews. The only frustrating affair is when people alter the whole recipe. They should ship in their own. Tracey did not even comment on this recipe,(not certain if she tried it) put hers in the reviews and said her family unit will only swallow hers. That is great but I feel information technology is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Please ship in slight changes to aid united states of america, practise non rewrite. Cheers

Admittedly delicious. I started out past cooking this on the stove top equally the recipe states (for almost 45 minutes) only due to a family unit emergency, I had to go out the business firm. Before leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. By the time I got home, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, and then 7 hours in crock pot for an nigh iii lb. roast). I took the advice of some other reviewers and added 1/2 stick of butter to the liquid as the meat cooked and I also used beef broth instead of water. The next day on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat back into the liquid merely to warm it. Information technology was SOOOOOO good!! I will definitely make this over again!!

Fantastic! I take always kind of "winged" it with corned beef and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a canteen of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is it! From at present on, no more winging information technology! For spices, I used the packet seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled ruby-red potatoes, onion slices, infant carrots and of course cabbage wedges.

this is my start time making corned beefiness and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought it was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beef was 3.75 lbs that came along with the spice packet, instead of water i used beefiness broth, added vi large cloves of garlic, 1 big white onion cut up into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, ten small red potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of taste ... all in a crockpot -- it took me eight hours to cook this dinner and it was worth every minute of it.

I did not accept to melt this recipe, this is the same as my grandpa ever made it. To the people out the writing reviews adding beef goop and what not . . THIS IS NOT BEEF STEW! Information technology IS Non SUPPOSED TO TASTE LIKE IT. If y'all change the recipe then you are making something else. This is exactly how yous make Irish corned beef and cabbage. If you change it, so yous are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will be the fouth time using this recipe and it is simple and yummy. The minor changes I do is cut up the potatoes and use modest carrots that I don't have to cut or peel. I don't understand why the most helpful review on here does not follow this recipe at ALL! Delight post your own recipe and let people review information technology. I discover it NOT helpful to me when reading reviews. If you add Beefiness broth, brown carbohydrate, mushrooms, onions, even beer. I can understand i or two changes but all that is something dissimilar then Corned beef and cabbage.

Cheers again for a wonderful recipe but thanks as well to all who write these bully reviews. Information technology is and then nice to read what cooks think of the dish they make. Yesterday I made this Corned Beef & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian wife that it was the best yet. WOW! What is funny to me about Allrecipes.com is that at present whenever I come upward with a new dish, friends or family will say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me past now. The reviews helped so much on these recipes. The problem I had with this is that there were no spice packets in the pkg. so I just did my own affair…four garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, two bay leaves, pepper, dry mustard & the only change I made was adding canteen of beer. When the beef was done I put information technology in a dish, covered with foil. And so cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till non quite done. When they were done I put them in a dish with goop, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was set up to serve. Sliced my cooled downwards beef, put in a 13 X ix dish covered with foil put in oven till set up to serve. I did make the Horseradish sauce and it was very good equally well, but I found that it was cold next to the nice hot corned beef. I'one thousand sticking to Grey Poupon….Also a little sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is great. Besides helps with whatsoever trouble that may occur after!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…great recipe. Thanks Laria and thanks all with the keen reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick's D

Best Corned Beef and Cabbage EVER!! I didn't change a thing and it turned out perfect!! Super simple recipe with amazing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The merely thing I'd do differently next fourth dimension is skim the tiptop once it boils the commencement fourth dimension and then add together the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe equally is (tin can't truly rate it otherwise can you?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of grade, depending on the the kind of pot you utilise (enamelled iron, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electric, halogen...) or oven (regular, convection...), but the times given in the original recipe are a very good estimate - just remember that tenderness is what you aim for. My just add-on was a generous swirl of sweet butter in the strained broth before serving; it adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Viii thumbs up (there were 4 of us)!
03/16/2006
This is the way it'due south washed. We e'er told my mother to make extra veggie's because we knew what was coming the next twenty-four hour period and that was the best part. The next day was cold sliced corned beef and my mother's vegetable fry. She would chop upward all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry upwards in a well seasoned iron skillet.. what she used every bit base, butter I remember, she would let cook until information technology got crispy, then turn and practice again. To this day, I tin can not duplicate merely proceed trying. Effort it yous will love it. A medley of flavor..

I've been doing information technology this way for over xxx years. In the concluding one-half hour I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put it in a roaster and cover it with i/four cup of brown sugar and place covered in the oven with merely a small amt of juice in the bottom. The dark-brown saccharide will melt and create a wonderful glaze for the corned beef. While the beef is in the oven I'll apply the liquid in the pot for the veges and so I'll also add a layer of dumplings to the top after the veges begin to boil. Luv information technology so much that I do it more than merely Patty's Day

The perfect simple Corned Beef recipe. In that location's plenty of ways to fix this meat, but if you want simple and delicious only follow forth and you won't be disappointed. I am usually a recipe "modder" I seem to ever be adjusting quantities and adding things. Even so lately I have been just trying recipes as they are written to find out how the writer likes it. This one was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, but wow it only was corking! Thanks alot!

Slap-up recipe. added tracey hint: I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for thirty minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until polish. ane/3 cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/iii loving cup of ketchup, and iii tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to forty mins. at 350 will practice it. Promise you like it, all of my friends who hate corned beef will simply eat mine!

Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'as is' - just I'd like to speak to those of yous who are aggravated well-nigh people changing up the recipe and then rating it, since 'changing information technology upwards' really doesn't give you an accurate review of the recipe as written. I have this to offer: Some of us use what's on-hand rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I notice this very helpful on occasion because 1) y'all might not have to go shopping if you lot use the substitutes or 2) you tin learn a unlike style to use a spice or other ingredient - which only makes you a better cook. Also - I've found a few recipe reviewers who have taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'change ups' can be invaluable and relieve fourth dimension when you don't take to scour the Internet trying to detect a way to omit a sure ingredient but still go the full issue of the dish. I, too, am sometimes frustrated with the review organization - just if you lot attempt to understand where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you can make a 'just okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... but by the mere fact that people take the time to review dishes, even if they do alter them a flake, shows they care plenty to share their data with y'all. Happy cooking!
03/12/2011
I add one more footstep (delicious) afterwards yous remove the corned beefiness from the liquid, brush the elevation with regular prepared mustard and so add a thin layer of light brown suger on elevation of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for virtually 30 min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this 4 times in March. I do believe that it is the best Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I have a very proficient Irish friend of 75 yrs old and she told me it was the best she always had...and preceded to tell information technology to the owners of a 100 twelvemonth erstwhile Irish deli and store. I cooked it in only guiness beer and beefiness broth. Added peppercorns, bay leaf and onions. When the meat was tender I removed it from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orange marmalade, brown mustard and brown sugar coat and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. Then I strained the goop, and so added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a split skillet, braising information technology in the broth with butter until cooked merely still crispy. Fabricated a Horseradish sauce of 3/4 sour cream, 1/four horseradish, 1 tlbs dried chives and the juice of i/2 lemon. This recipe will print anyone you serve it to.
08/10/2008
Skilful recipe. The corned beef is actually smashing when served topped with a horseradish dressing. ane/2 cup mayo, ane/2 cup sourcream and horseradish to taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I have constitute one matter that takes it to the elevation. After the corned beef is washed cooking I remove information technology from the pot or crock pot and top it with a glaze of mustard and brown sugar. Yous can mix it to your liking. I make a lot and let information technology drip downward all the sides. I then put it in the oven until it is heated through and the brown sugar is dissolved. And then slice and enjoy.
03/xiv/2012
I agree with others...skip the crock pot...the old fashioned way works best. I similar to melt the corned beef, remove from h2o and wrap in aluminum foil to continue hot. So I strain the water to go out the peppercorns and re-use to melt potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This manner you don't bite into a big peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/20/2007
As per some of the suggestions, I used two cans of beer & ii cans of beefiness broth instead of water and cooked it for 7 hours in the crockpot. I too added iii cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should accept given the potatoes and carrots xc minutes. I only allowed for 30 and dinner was quite late. Even my husband liked it who swore he hates corned beef and has never liked cabbage - but he ate it all!
03/eleven/2012
this was fabulous, first I boiled the corned beef on top of stove in water, ane guinness, one bay leaf, the spice packet, and 1 shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the advice of another review which said to coat the corned beefiness for the last xl minutes with the 1/three cup brown sugar, 2tbsp melted butter, 1 tbsp prepared mustard, one/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, bake 40 minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cut the corned beef across the grain. Serve with soda bread. It is soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
03/02/2005
Just a notation that may help in cooking this meal, Add some Caraway seeds when you lot add the cabbage. Information technology will assist to go rid of the gas that you lot volition probably get from eating the cabbage.
09/15/2006
Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick'southward Twenty-four hours.. or whatever other time of the twelvemonth when you can't stand up to have it only once! ***UPDATE: I made this once again this year and it was absolutely succulent, but with these alterations: I used 1 tin of Guiness, beef broth, and a water to boil the meat. In addition to the spice bundle, I added 2-3 tbsp. mustard seeds, whole black peppercorns, and 3 bayleaves. The cabbage took about xx minutes to cook even when I turned up the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend two heads of cabbage b/c I like the cabbage. I used almost an entire (save the few I snacked on while cooking) ane lb. handbag of baby carrots and 12 baby carmine potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they absorb a lot of the table salt and y'all can end upwards with a really salty roast. Anyhow, this recipe is a great starting signal, just with additions information technology can be crawly... and it was! Everybody gobbled information technology up on St. Patty'southward. Thank you!
03/17/2012
This was very good! The merely alter I made was to add together three large cloves of chopped garlic. I also made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned past a fellow member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for xxx minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/3 cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/three cup of ketchup, and iii tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, and so pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to 40 mins. at 350 volition exercise it. Hope yous similar it, all of my friends who hate corned beef will but consume mine!"... Tracey's sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll brand my corned beef like this from now on!
02/05/2013
Good, basic and functional - what I'd call a reference recipe. I did mine in the slow cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with enough water to embrace. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, only more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'1000 Irish. VERY Irish. And this is my Get TO recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage. I just gave it 3 stars, so why is it my Go To?? I gave it three stars based on how it tastes equally-is. It'southward my Go To because it keeps the recipe simple. Here'south the affair - you don't take to practice anything fancy to make astonishing, over-the-top corned beef and cabbage. People think information technology needs to be complicated. It doesn't!! The ONLY thing I added and information technology makes a HUGE difference - one/ii jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never will again.
05/04/2009
this is the all-time corned beefiness and cabbage i have ever tasted an perpared, subed beef broth for water and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt finish eating.THANKS? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I changed a meg things. By the time information technology was finished, information technology was an entirely unlike repast. Loved it!
03/13/2011
I only made this recipe this night. I didn't change a single matter! It WAS AWESOME!!!
06/05/2013
Cut off the big fat then cover the corn beef with beef broth Add peppercorns, bay leaf and onions to spice packet. Before adding the spice packet, you first bring the meat to a boil and skim the foamy stuff off the top of the water.. cook meat @ 50 min. per lb Accept the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, Add some Caraway seeds when yous add the cabbage. Glaze for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smoothen. 1/3 loving cup of chocolate-brown saccharide, two tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/three cup of ketchup, and three tblsp of apple tree cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till shine, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. xxx to forty mins. at 350 volition exercise it.
12/28/2009
Hi, quick question. If I want to terminate this in the oven do I shorten the original cooking time? Thanks
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared it right by the recipe. My family unit of five gobbled upwards a 2.seven pound corned beef brisket in no time. In that location wasn't much conversation at this meal, except that they were begging me to melt this again even earlier nosotros were done eating. Volition definately cook once more!
03/xi/2009
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, so they were on the fence, all the same for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/slow cooker all twenty-four hour period. I used a 6qt on high. My pot was actually total so the cabbage I placed in 1 1/two hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo good. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo easy to divide for slices. Volition make this once again for hubby and I.
09/08/2008
This is the same recipe my grandma taught me but to save time, I put everything in the crock pot.
eleven/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately make this again. Nonetheless, I would alter a couple of things. First, if the corned beef yous buy has an excessive corporeality of fat on the underside every bit many of them do, trim the fat. Also, practise as one reviewer suggested, add beef broth instaed of h2o. I also added an onion. Loved this like shooting fish in a barrel to make recipe. Try it.
03/14/2009
I made this one last week and information technology was really skillful. I rinsed off the beefiness when I took it out of the package, and then proceeded every bit directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in half instead of the ruddy potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots about 30 minutes before adding the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked just right.
03/eighteen/2009
I wait all year for this meal but I had never fabricated it myself until this twelvemonth. A friend gave me the advice to pull the beef out of the pot when you put the veggies in, sprinkle brown sugar on top and bake it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are washed. Information technology was And then adept! Please try this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and it was fantastic. Husband wants more!
03/14/2009
I don't even like corned beef and cabbage and this was a hit! For the most part, I stuck to the recipe. Just added i bottle of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a dash of celery salt. I did not include the potatoes with the meat because we were having another potato sidedish, simply I think they would've been adept cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 ane/4lb. slice of meat for virtually four hours and it shredded beautifully. Great recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, easy dish! made this a few times. I use a VERY large pot. I added one tin of lite beer, and about 2 cups of apple juice. Then filled the rest with water to cover meat. 45mins before brisket should be washed, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins earlier everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/10/2006
OH MY! And so much for following the recipe. While my beef was simmering in 8 cups of h2o for 2.5 hrs, I took a siesta. The h2o all evaporated and the beef burned. Time to outset again. A glass of wine for me, or perchance two, a fresh brisket, and half again as much water.
06/16/2008
I accept been making this for years. I too add a bottle of beer. I also employ new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Red pepper and bell pepper. I can eat this for days. I don't trim the fat. The fatty is one of my favorite parts. This is one of the very few recipes I make that I am non fat conscious about. This and steaks. I can eat this soup for days 6 times a day!
03/17/2011
This is the archetype grooming. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cut the cabbage into big chunks and steam it separately until tender. Add as much butter as your nutrition will allow :) and season with salt and pepper. When the corned beef is fully cooked, remove it and put information technology in a baking dish. Mix mustard and brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on top of the corned beef. Put the meat under the broiler until it bubbles and crisps. By cooking the cabbage separately and calculation the brown carbohydrate paste you'll savor more variety of flavors and you'll get a little crunch for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my outset time making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I will be making this once again! I used the red flat corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both red and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beef did non come w/ a spice bundle, merely when the repast is consummate, the gustatory modality is even so to die for. I added a petty salt and pepper and a flake of garlic, but there is actually no need to.
03/nineteen/2004
I'm a rookie when information technology comes to cooking. In fact, I have never cooked a consummate meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's day, my wife was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beefiness and cabbage dinner when she got abode. The directions were piece of cake to follow and the finished production was outstanding! I also made corn bread (my first attempt at blistering staff of life). I used chicken broth instead of just water as some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were actually practiced as well!! I was really surprised how delecious the meal turn out and then was my married woman!!
10/04/2005
Love this recipe! Other reviewers suggest calculation beef broth, peppercorns, etc., just I recall this comfort food is best made merely, just similar practiced 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you determine non to utilise them, expect the goop to be pretty salty since the potatoes blot a good amount of salt during the cooking process. Likewise, for those with kids, brew the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add a little butter, and they'll probably dearest it! Mine did (age 6 and seven).
03/fourteen/2011
used 4.7lb beef, ii heads cabbage, 7 med yellow taters . Cooked beefiness 3hr20min,added taters melt ane hr, added cabbage . cooked xxx-35min till cabbabe tender but crispy ! bully !!!
10/11/2002
YUM! I added actress peppercorns & beef broth instead of water (equally others suggested), archetype cb&c, we love information technology! My picky daughter ate left over craven with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thanks Laria!
12/25/2006
if you want to add a bit more than color and maybe a hint more sweetness to this recipe, try red cabbage with the green, it is wonderful.
03/16/2012
Adding a store bought spice mix and adding it to water is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Merely perfect! Even hubby liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy then I wasn't certain about the cabbage but he went back for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is so tasty it's to die for! You don't need ANY other seasoning other than the little packet that comes with the beef, not even salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for you lot. Don't be scared about how your cabbage volition taste! Another little tip - ADD SOME ONIONS. I love onions and it makes everything that much meliorate!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't cook once again.
02/01/2011
I dearest this recipe every bit it is, but I found making ii minor modifications makes it even better (at least in my family's opinion). Commencement, add together a half-cup or and so of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. 2d, supercede the cabbage with ane-1.5 pounds of Brussels sprouts. Information technology makes for a overnice twist on an old favorite.
01/28/2011
Fabled! Like a some other reviewer, I had always winged it when it came to corned beef & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beef tender and starting to autumn autonomously - which I love - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft but not soggy. From here on out, this volition exist THE recipe to use!
03/15/2010
This is amazing! I used some other reviewers tip and used one can of beer and iii large cloves garlic pressed through my garlic press (then enough h2o to cover beef and adding the spices from the bundle) and added 1 whole stick of butter at the aforementioned time I added the cabbage. I likewise cut my potatoes because they were adequately big cherry-red potatoes and that worked well. Nifty Smashing Great Recipe!!!!
03/11/2011
I prepared this but like the directions and my family unit just loved it!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the total lack of onions. One onion, white or yellow, medium small per person.
03/15/2011
Actually, real Irish don't even eat this. It'due south an American Irish immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was virtually the cheapest available. the poorer they were, the less that went into information technology. They too didn't have the nice picayune spice parcel either. Anyway, add the carrots, garlic, and if you feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. boil with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never made corned beef earlier considering I did not like it equally a child, just my husband is Irish gaelic and really missed it. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved it! Now my kids request it all the time. The best part about it is that the cabbage just cooks through, and so it is not mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh flavor and is very like shooting fish in a barrel to make.
03/12/2009
We did not intendance for this at all! The veggies were not done enough & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I remember information technology needs to be cooked all day.
03/15/2010
I made this Sunday, it was to die for. My husband simply loved the beefiness, said it was the all-time he has e'er eaten. Thanks
01/01/2013
Perfect and piece of cake! I tried corned beef last year in a pressure cooker, it tasted nil similar this. This is like shooting fish in a barrel. I made information technology exact to instructions with a three lb corned beef. Even my family liked the carrots, and no 1 in my family unit likes cooked carrots. We just voted to have this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of simply new years day and St. Patrick's day.
04/04/2011
made as written. It was proficient. The 2nd fourth dimension I added a little cherry wine and water, iii bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, 2 stalks celery,3 carrots,1/2 onion, and spice package. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage last hr of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the showtime time my corned beef came out great. Thank you for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an excellent recipe! The only other thing I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a footling small, so it was a tight fit, but I made information technology piece of work. Delicious carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beefiness. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a great recipe. Very like shooting fish in a barrel, which is important. Using beefiness broth was a good suggestion, however the meat that I used could accept cooked a little longer and the cabbage was a picayune under done, probably 25 min would be better than 15. But overall it was very tasty and the whole family loved information technology!
03/xiv/2007
We cook this recipe every year at our St. Patty'southward Day party (sans the potatoes, add more cabbage), and our party grows every twelvemonth due to give-and-take of oral fissure well-nigh the corned beef. Concluding twelvemonth nosotros hosted over 100 people and went through half-dozen large crockpots of corned beef and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Great recipe! I used a behemothic roaster for this meal since we like a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and e'er comes out perfect. I do put my carrots in with the meat cooking process since my family unit likes softer carrots and I add the potatos and cabbage together and then yous get no tough cabbage in the end. Thanks for the recipe!
03/14/2015
I have tried many recipes like this and they are all skilful. I'one thousand directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Leave information technology alone, everyone knows it is not an Irish dish It is a wonderful i pot meal Stay positive and savour. Have a wonderful family unit mean solar day enjoying this repast.
02/27/2011
exercise non add together more than cookin' for xtra briskets...50 min. per lb..

"What's more Irish gaelic than a traditional recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage?" The reply is - lots of things! Corned beefiness and cabbage is non a traditional Irish dish. Born and bred in Republic of ireland, I was in my l's when I spent some fourth dimension in the US and was told that everyone eats corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy's Twenty-four hour period. I had never heard of it and I nevertheless have never tasted it. When I came abode from that trip I did ask around, in case I somehow had missed this vital part of Irish tradition, but, no, I take yet to come beyond any Irish national who has actually eaten corned beef and cabbage. Further research has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, because of their new-found affluence. At domicile, in Ireland, information technology was only the very wealthy who could afford to eat beef. So, eating corned beefiness on Paddy's Twenty-four hour period is really an American-Irish-Jewish tradition.

This is the first time I have made corned beef and cabbage this mode. Ordinarily I arrive in the crock pot. I always worried about it non coming out tender if it was boiled. This recipe was perfect, the only matter I added was a tin can of beer for more flavor. I volition be making it this way from now on. Goodbye bye crock pot recipe!

Proficient template for a superb archetype dish. I highly recommend using a can or ii low-sodium beef broth instead of h2o, which really enhances flavour without oversalting the recipe. If you're a garlichead similar me attempt tossing in 5 or 6 cloves when you start the meat, and brew them into the stock after they melt to tender.

First of all, let me state I am not a corned beef fan. I decided to cover my 12.5 % Irish blood in me on a whim this morning and make something in honor of St. Patrick's Mean solar day. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market in search of a three lb corned beef and some soda breadstuff...got Guinness equally an impulse item to authenticate the meal while I was at it, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave up two of the bottles for the pot. I warned my married man of virtually 25 years that if we didn't like the meat, at that place were plenty of veggies to sustain us. All I tin can say is I tin no longer say I'm not a corned beef fan...though so far I only similar my ain recipe (meet how apace something I learn becomes my ain--it'due south a Greek thing)! I added one whole onion, iii cloves of garlic (I dearest garlic and next fourth dimension I'll add together more), 1 TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Not large into potatoes, but the family is, and potatoes are but so Irish. Simmered iii hours, then added potatoes for fifteen min, then the carrots for another 15 and and so cabbage for the terminal 15. I heated up purchased Irish Soda Bread while the cabbage simmered. I served the meal on a large platter with the meat against one side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on one side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage betwixt, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Succulent. Nosotros enjoyed this very much. I had no cerise potatoes, and then I used 6 medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the bottom of my crock pot and put the meat on top. My cabbage did non fit in my crock, so I laid information technology on summit of the meat. I filled it halfway with water, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and let it melt. As the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage downwardly a fleck. I cooked it on high for 5 hours or so and everything was great. Loved it. I don't think it needed the beefiness bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my first time making corned beef, and I will definitely exist making it once again! The process is so like shooting fish in a barrel, if somewhat lengthy, but the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning package included in the package with the meat, and also took the recommended communication of using beef broth every bit the cooking liquid. When it was done cooking, I found the meat to be also salty, then I took the advice of another user and fabricated a uncomplicated coat out of brown carbohydrate, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar, so put the beefiness in a small baking pan and baked it at 350 for half an hr while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a little skeptical, but the result was an extremely tender, salty-sweet brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I only add, during the last 1/2 hour, the potatoes and carrots effectually the beefiness so identify cabbage wedges on top of everything to steam, embrace and finish cooking. As well, to serve Exercise please try a generous corporeality of French's Mustard on the sliced corn beef and butter on the veggies ...it'south simply heavenly!

It got my six yr old daughter to eat cabbage. My wife and two twelvemonth erstwhile son are not too keen on corned beefiness, just the kid and I beloved corned beefiness (especially cold leftovers). This recipe was uncomplicated and perfect. I haven't added cabbage since my daughter was born, merely I thought I would give it a shot. I did add together onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, but on the whole it would have been easy and delicious regardless. I also cut up the reddish potatoes and carrots and boiled them off 10 min before calculation the cabbage, so boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, then returned the rested beef to the pot for another 10-fifteen min on simmer. Anyway you do information technology, it'south easy and delicious. Will add together mushrooms next time, I recall. If y'all cut your potatoes don't overcook. I also serve with Southern style cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did melt my brisket in water and the veggies turned out just a flake bland. Adjacent time I will endeavor using beef broth as suggested past other reviewers. All in all a good recipe that I will apply again.
